日本人の宗教観

『日本人は宗教的ですか？』

恐らく、多くの人が「いやー・・」と答えるのではないかと思います。ただ、これは私にとっては、世界の他の宗教と比べるからなんじゃないかと思います。一神教で、創始者がいて、聖典や禁忌事項があるような。

一方で日本の古来からの宗教「神道」は、多神教であり、精霊崇拝を元とした、明確な「教え」がありません。基本的な考えとしては自然を敬うこと、先祖を敬うことで、神様は私たちの身近にたくさんいると考えています。なので仏教が日本に伝来した時も「お、別の神様がきたのね」程度で（仏は神ではありませんが）浄土の世界を司る神かのように受け入れられたのでしょう。

だから法事をお寺で行う人が多く、お寺では現世の願いはあまり行いません。商売繁盛とか立身出世のような願いは主に神社で行うものです。

そして私たちはクリスマスを恋人と過ごし、結婚式をチャペルで行います。なぜか、日本ではキリスト教は恋愛関係と深く結びついたようです。

こうした考えは、特に敬虔な方には受け入れづらいものかもしれません。ただ、もはやこれらはもはや習慣のようになっています。だからこそ「宗教的」とは捉えられず、一部ではスピリチュアルだと言う人もいます。私は、日本人はどの神様も同程度に崇拝していると感じています。

Are Japanese people religious?

I guess many of us would answer “No we are not”. but for me, this is because we compare it with other religions in the world, which are monotheism have initiator documents and taboos.

While in Japan, Shintoism, the original religion, is polytheism and animism without clear lessons. The basic idea is to respect nature and ancestors; deities are everywhere around us. When Buddhism arrived, people were like, okay another deity, and welcomed it as a kind of god of the other world.

That's why many people have memorial services at a temple but we don’t really make a wish for current life. Wishes like to be rich or successful are for shrines. We enjoy Xmas with couples and have a wedding ceremony at a church, so somehow Christianity represents love for us.

I understand this is not the best for some of you, but these are a part of custom now. So, it doesn’t seem religious, some say it’s spiritual, but I think we respect all the gods at the same level.
